Private vs. Public

I strongly believe that the health care system should be available and equal to all citizens, just like Canada’s health care system. I do not approve of the private health care system, just like the United States’ two-tier system because health care is a crucial element to a human’s existence. Without the help from the health care system, many people will be exhibiting severe diseases that can ultimately cost their life. With the private sector, many people cannot afford to see the doctor due to excruciating cost. Therefore, how can one put a cost upon the health of many individuals? I believe that cost should not be inhibiting someone from seeking medical attention and that there should be more public health care available to society.

Waiting Times in Hospitals

Hospital wait times are definitely a flaw in the health care system. I had to accompany my brother to the hospital for a dislocated finger and it took 10 hours before my brother, mom and I could return home. I find it ridiculous that people have to wait for long hours in order to see the physician even though it is a very minor injury that takes two seconds to treat. It’s disappointing to know that a lot of money is invested into the health care system but yet wait times remain the same or even long than usual. I understand that money is invested into research but I believe that the money should be equally distributed; therefore improving parts of the health care system step by step.

Health Care in 3rd World Countries

I sincerely believe that Canada has one of the best health care systems. In contrast, third world countries struggle to provide proper health care. It is upsetting to see how many children scrounge through the piles of garbage to look for food, and the length they go to, to seek unsanitary water. As a result, many children and adults develop diseases which are not difficult to treat but they are unable to adhere to doctors for treatment due to socio economic status. It continues to amaze me how the government fails to recognize the dire needs of its citizens. It always saddens me when I see children’s future taken away when they die from diseases that could have been easily cured or prevented.

Nursing= Caring

First semester is coming to an end and I feel that we learned a lot about nursing and the different aspect of it as well. I learned that caring plays a huge part in nursing and that it can ultimately affect the relationship you form with your patient. I never realized how important caring is and how much information and theories are derived from it. Caring can affect a nurse or a client’s behaviour in a positive way. I believe that caring is essential to nursing as it provides comfort, care, security and trust towards the patient. As a side note, each person has a personal opinion towards care, whether it’s natural or taught, caring is an essential element of life and demonstrating care can go so far.

Technology in the Health Care System

Technology is a very unique and new tool that continues to evolve overtime. Although, technology benefits the health care system in many ways, I believe that it doesn’t help overcome communication barriers. Communication is very important but poses its challenges. It causes a language barrier between the speaker and the subject and is commonly found within the nursing field. I think that many nurses do not use technology to help overcome these barriers instead they think of a creative plan or idea to help the patient understand their medical condition. For example, drawing pictures or asking family member to translate medical conditions is useful and creative tools to overcome communication barriers. These tools do not involve technology therefore technology is not helpful in overcoming communication barriers.
